About Rhiane

Rhiane François celebrated her 7th birthday recently but behind all of the smiles was a deep concern for Rhiane as she was sadly diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukaemia, Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in September 2013.

Rhiane Francois is currently undergoing chemotherapy for AML blood cancer whilst she waits for a bone marrow transplant. Her parents have been told she will need a matching bone marrow donor to be found by the beginning of February 2014. Rhiane is of mixed race; her father is Mauritian and her mother is Asian Sikh, so her greatest chance of finding a suitable stem cell donor will be from those communities. The statistics show that the numbers of people registered as potential bone marrow / stem cell donors from ethnic minorities, is very low.

While the challenge to find an ethnic minority donor is great, it is by no means impossible when people’s goodwill is harnessed on mass. Good things can happen. Recently a lifesaving match was found for 2-year old Guarav Bains from the Asian community:

Deirdra Taylor, Head of Communications and Donor Recruitment (DKMS) said: We are so pleased for little Guarav and his family and friends, who have all worked tirelessly for months to make this happen. In doing so they have hugely raised awareness and actively mobilised so many people in the Asian Community nationwide to get registered as a potential lifesaver for Guarav, or for the other patients out there, who just like him, also desperately need a stem cell donor. The greater the pool of Asian donors, the more lives can be saved” You can register online today at  www.deletebloodcancer.org.uk

7 YEAR OLD RHIANE OF MIXED MAURITIAN AND ASIAN SIKH PARENTAGE IS FIGHTING THE AGGRESSIVE ACUTE MYELOID LEUKAEMIA. SHE URGENTLY NEEDS A BONE MARROW DONOR FROM HER COMMUNITY.

BeTheHero campaign is working with ACLT and Delete Blood Cancer UK to help increase the number of potential bone marrow donors on UK registers. BeTheHero organizes fundraising events. It costs £40 to test one potential donor.

We ask for your help to raise funds for these charities so they are able to continue their work and help save lives. Your support is appreciated and any donations will be gratefully received.

Rhiane’s mum Tanisha Tamner has told us it’s been hard coming to terms with her illness; ”Me and her dad were distraught, our whole world got told upside down. It’s a mother’s worst nightmare to see your child go through what she did.”

“Rhiane understands she’s got poorly blood and is very poorly. She’s amazing, In the last couple of months she’s had to grow up so quickly.”

Little Rhiane wrote a letter to Santa explaining her greatest wish for Christmas. Could you be the one to give her the gift of life this Christmas?

Rhiane Francois lives in Birmingham with her parents and needs our Urgent Support!
